Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about StatLingo.

General

StatLingo is a multilingual communication app designed specifically for frontline healthcare teams. It provides pre-verified medical phrases in 11 languages with text-to-speech pronunciation, organized by clinical scenario. It works completely offline and is built to help nurses, CNAs, and other healthcare workers communicate essential information to patients with limited English proficiency.
StatLingo is built for frontline healthcare professionals including nurses, certified nursing assistants (CNAs), medical technicians, patient care associates, and other clinical staff who interact directly with patients. It is especially useful in settings like hospitals, psychiatric facilities, long-term care, rehabilitation centers, and urgent care clinics where multilingual patient populations are common.
StatLingo offers a free tier that includes core phrases in up to 2 languages. Our Pro plan at $2.99/month unlocks all 11 languages, all phrase categories, and advanced features like favorites and custom phrase sets. We also offer team and enterprise pricing for healthcare organizations. Visit our pricing page for details.

Features

StatLingo currently supports 11 languages: English, Spanish, Mandarin Chinese, Vietnamese, Korean, Tagalog, Arabic, French, Russian, Portuguese, and Haitian Creole. These were selected based on the most commonly encountered languages in US healthcare settings. We are actively working to add more languages based on user demand.
Yes, StatLingo is designed with an offline-first architecture. All phrase libraries, translations, and text-to-speech functionality work without an internet connection. This is critical for healthcare environments where Wi-Fi may be unreliable or unavailable, such as basements, psychiatric units, or rural facilities. The app downloads all necessary data during initial setup.
StatLingo uses your device's built-in text-to-speech engine to pronounce phrases in the target language. Simply tap the speaker icon next to any phrase to hear it spoken aloud. This is especially helpful when you want to communicate a phrase to a patient but are unsure of pronunciation. The TTS works offline using your device's native speech synthesis capabilities.

Safety & Compliance

StatLingo is designed with HIPAA compliance in mind. The app does not collect, store, or transmit any Protected Health Information (PHI). All data stays on your device with no cloud storage or external transmission. Because we never handle PHI, we minimize HIPAA risk by design. For enterprise deployments, we can provide a Business Associate Agreement (BAA) and detailed security documentation.
No. StatLingo is a communication aid, not a replacement for certified medical interpreters. Professional interpreters are required by law for many medical interactions, including informed consent, discharge instructions, and complex medical discussions. StatLingo is designed for routine daily interactions such as checking vitals, asking about pain, or explaining meal options. We recommend using StatLingo alongside your facility's interpreter services.
Every phrase in StatLingo goes through a rigorous verification process. First, phrases are drafted by healthcare professionals who understand the clinical context. Then, they are translated by certified medical translators who are native speakers of each target language. Finally, translations are reviewed by a second independent linguist for accuracy, cultural appropriateness, and clarity. We do not use machine translation for our core phrase libraries.
